Living RoomWhen we travel, we like to feel like we are at home, only better. So we designed the living space at Apogee to be a mountain-modern sanctuary, perfect for ourselves and for our guests. No carved, wooden bears here. Just sustainably-harvested natural elements, vintage finds, and curated furnishings that create space that's a equal parts cozy and classy.
The living space is intelligently-designed with an open floor plan to make the space perfect for entertaining and enjoying. Make drinks and appetizers in the kitchen, pass them across the bar and watch as your friends and family sink into the plush seating to warm by the fire. |

The living room is anchored with a massive, antique, hand-knotted Iranian Tabriz rug, ornately woven with the traditional religious and natural imagery of the East. To read more about the imagery in the rug, click here. This is our cornerstone design piece and formed the inspiration for our choices in everything from bedding to dishware.
We filled the space with two long, leather Bernhardt sofas and buttery soft leather arm chairs so there's plenty of plush seating. We added modern, practical, adjustable height barstools, so friends and family can gather at the bar while the family mixmaster pours drinks from the integrated beverage fridge.
The imposing elk antlers were a family find, traveling 3 generations from turn of the 20th century Idaho to arrive at their new home on our wall in Mammoth today.
We've adapted an Indonesian open-front armoire which is where you will find blankets and games.
And don't judge us for our faux-fur ottomans. We just couldn't resist adding a little mountain kitsch.

Dining room
I absoutely love this table -- it is warm but modern all at the same time, and can seat all the people I love at one time.
My kids, who had to help move it in, call it 'the castle door' because with 3 solid inches of wood over an expanse of 8 feet, this table is as heavy as, well, a castle door. And that's not even counting the 18 inch posts that support it. The benches are also solid and equally fantastic, and offer enough space to hold 4-6 people. At each end of the table, you'll find a Old Hickory armchair. |

I have a total furniture crush on Old Hickory -- maybe because I am also a Southern Transplant to the Eastern Sierras who feels equally settled on both coasts. If you don't know the history of Old Hickory furniture company of North Carolina or their historic place in classic Sierra and Yosemite interior design, read more here.
I've added a chunky natural sisal rug to protect the wood floor, and we change out the metal-printed photography -- from my favorite photographers who happens to be my sons -- seasonally.

Hall bathroom
You're probably relieved to hear that there's not much I can say about the bathroom. It's a bathroom with a large walk-in shower and a single sink. There are plenty of toiletries and 6 sets of towels provided in this bathroom.

Fireplace |
The living room is fitted with a sealed propane-fed fireplace with electronic ignition. In order to turn on the fireplace, simply flip the wall-mounted switch located just to the right of the fireplace. Be aware that if you use the fireplace constantly, it may trip off the central heat, leaving some spaces of the home less warm than you might prefer.
